Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Gallery - DC

A few days ago, Dan and I visited the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington DC. It was an assignment for our art class, and we ended up getting a free day out of class!
When you walk into the museum, you are greeted by a room of bold white print on black and red backgrounds. Quotes from famous activists, words and statements that make you ponder, and messages that take up the walls, escalator support structures, ceiling, and floor. Other than the quote above, my other favorite quote from the room was Belief + Doubt = Sanity.

Our main assignment was to see the works by Ai Weiwei, one of our teacher's favorite artists. Just walking through the exhibit was insane. There was so much variety and so much to take in!

This ceiling to floor photography installation of construction was really cool. It reminded me almost of a room full of instagram photos.

Hundreds of sculpted crabs littered the floor in the next room.

This photo made me chuckle.

An interesting quote.

This was my favorite of all the pieces. You walk by, not seeing the sculpture, but just an orange glow reflected on the wall across from it. Then, as you pass, it draws you in. I felt like a moth going towards a lightbulb. I think that may have been what he intended.

Then we went on to the rest of the museum to see some of the other works. This room of mobiles was awesome.

And I saw my first Andy Warhol!

This print from the gift shop caught my attention. I think it's by Barbara Krueger, the same artist that did the room full of words at the beginning of the tour.

Ever been to the Hirshhorn?

Looks like a great musuem - I've never been myself, but it's not a far drive from me and might be worth the visit! Thanks for letting me know about it
